Amber at dawn, bazaars by dusk.

Fort ramparts, mirrored palaces, tiger country and the Taj a sunrise away: what each tour is really like, what it costs, and where to book it.

Worth booking first

The tours that anchor a Jaipur trip.

First visit or fifth, these carry the days: the fort you climb at opening time, a mirror hall built for one maharaja, the bazaar crawl your hotel won’t point you toward.

Above the old city

Amber Fort earns the early start.

Beat the coaches to the Sun Gate, cross the courtyards before the heat sets in, then find the Sheesh Mahal while the mirror-work still holds the morning light. Jaigarh’s giant cannon and the view over Maota Lake are a short climb higher. This is the morning people build the whole trip around.

Come hungry

Jaipur eats on the street.

Pyaaz kachori that stains the paper, hot jalebis by the kilo, a lassi thick enough to stand a spoon in. The old city’s food is best on foot, one stall at a time, with someone who knows which counter to trust.

Made by hand

Take a skill home with you.

Print your own cloth with the hand-carved blocks Bagru has used for centuries, or cook a full Rajasthani thali in a home kitchen: gatte ki sabzi, dal, the right way to fold a stuffed paratha. You leave with more than photos.

Inside the walls

The old Pink City still trades.

Johri Bazaar for silver and gemstones, Bapu Bazaar for block-printed cloth and jootis, Tripolia for lac bangles hammered out while you wait. The walled city was laid out as a grid of markets three centuries ago, and it still runs on them.

Where to go

Pick your corner of Jaipur.

The walled city is a grid you can read in a day. Hawa Mahal and the City Palace at its heart, Amber Fort on the ridge above, Jal Mahal floating on its lake, and the bazaars threading between them all.

What to do

Twelve ways into the same city. Pick the one that sounds like your kind of day and every option behind it is already reviewed and priced.

Out of town

Bigger days, a drive away.

Jaipur is the anchor of the whole region. The Taj at Agra, tigers at Ranthambore, the great stepwell at Abhaneri and the holy lake at Pushkar are each within a morning’s drive, with a bed back in the Pink City that night.
